How a screen organises itself by width: bottom navigation bar on phone, left rail beyond, bounded content width, support pane on very large screens, two panes on an open fold.
Rules
- Compact: bottom bar (3 to 5 destinations, the rest in a More sheet). Medium and up: left rail. The breakpoint is a choice: 600px (M3 window size classes) or 760px when navigation has more than four destinations or the content needs width. Both are accepted, but pick one per app; the Pelote site uses 760px.
- No dead space: a full-width bento overview, or bounded content (1340px) with a useful pane past 1500px, otherwise centred.
- Fold: two panes on either side of the hinge, nothing important on it. Tabletop: read on top, act at the bottom.
